Welcome to the official website of the Prescribed Body Corporate (PBC) of the Butchulla Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC.
The Butchulla people are the traditional custodians of K’gari (Fraser Island) and the adjacent Great Sandy Strait region.
K’gari is 120 kilometres long and about 24 kilometres wide. In the past the island was used for logging and sand mining but in 1992 it was listed as a World Heritage Area. The island is the largest sand island in the world and the largest island in Queensland. It is covered with pristine rainforests, eucalyptus woodland, mangrove forests, wallum and peat swamps, sand dunes and coastal heaths.
The native title rights and interests of our mob (the Butchulla people) was recognised in the Butchulla People #2 determination of 24 October 2014. In XXXX an elected Prescribed Body Corporate was formed with seven directors.
The Butchulla PBC RNTBC works with a wide range of organisations that are also stakeholders in the management of K’gari.
We welcome the opportunity to work with many different sectors to ensure the island is well cared for and available for all to enjoy respectfully.
